CD Review: Runaround Kids - Kiss Chase
The first professional release from Wakefield's Runaround Kids takes a little while to get going, thanks to unnecessary 'introductory' song 'Kiss Chase.' The spine-tingling atmospherics and frontman George Garthwaite's distant, crackling vocals make this sound bizarrely like the soundtrack to an episode of flash-in-the-pan online cartoon sensation Salad Fingers, which makes for um, interesting listening.

CD Review: The Heartbreaks - Polly
I've been in this situation before. You meet a girl on holiday, instantly take a fancy to her, get talking and get to know each other on a personal level, share a kiss on the dancefloor, she's rattled with confusion and suddenly becomes indifferent, she realises (about three days later) that you're the one, comes back, you share the rest of your holiday together, she becomes the one, the holiday finishes, you're convinced you're going to marry her, she never gets in touch, you lose contact and end up spending the rest of your days in a black hole with only hazy memories of your secret trysts for comfort.

It's a funny thing, electroclash. A few years ago it was considered the in thing, the hip new sound from the underground, the tipple of choice for people who wear ghastly 1980s clothing and cake themselves in make up.

Joshua Radin is an acoustic singer/songwriter. When close friend and actor/film-maker Zach Braff heard a demo of Radin's song "Winter," he was immediately interested, and got the song onto the show Scrubs in the episode "My Screw Up." The song received an overwhelmingly positive response and gave Radin substantial exposure with the show's demographic.

CD Review: I Hate Kate - Embrace The Curse
Contrary to its gothic title, album-opener 'Bed of Black Roses' is a giddy blend of breakneck punk riffs and fizzy electro beats that sets the tone for I Hate Kate's début album 'Embrace The Curse.' Frontman Justin Mauriello, former vocalist of Zebrahead, has the perfect voice for this brand of helter-skelter pop-punk, his strident-edged vocals cutting clearly over even 'Bed of Black Roses' raucous punk chorus.

CD Review: Various Artists - NME The Album 2009
The press release that accompanies this two disco compilation gives NME the moniker of "the pioneers of all things cool" before promising us an album that "has its finger on the pulse, so you don't have to!" It couldn't possibly be any clearer that this is an album for people who see a band on the front cover of NME, and then spend the next week enthusing about the greatness of said band, regardless of whether they like them or not.
