CD Review: Franz Ferdinand - Eleanor Put Your Boots On
Enticing each listener and new fan alike with a distinctly un-Franz intro and instructions to run although it isn't 'dignified'; Kapranos et al yet again prove that they are indeed artists of integrity as they boldly go where they haven't previously.

CD Review: Bird - Falling Like Stars
"Bird's songs occupy similar territory to Dido," say the Daily Telegraph. Oh dear. Thankfully, our favourite right wing broadsheet seem to have missed the point on this one, as Bird (otherwise known as Janie Price)'s latest is thankfully, a really rather beautiful number.

Live Review: Mr Shiraz
Move over Mr Manson, the kids are here and they've got their skankin' boots on. Huddersfield eight-piece Mr Shiraz, fresh from their acclaimed European tour, attract all comers as their fresh-faced blend of ska punk bounces effortlessly off the sweaty, and equally energetic crowd.

CD Review: Funeral for a Friend - Escape Artists Never Die
On one hand faced with a mountain of press and media that can say nothing bad about the black haired post-nu-metal-rock-core-emo-make-up-your-own-new-genre band, whilst on the other hand faced with a similar level of interest in the music as my regular hobby of sticking pins in my eyes - this was not going to be an easy task!

CD Review: Head Automatica - Beating Heart Baby
Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present to you the single of the year. Of course it won't win any award for being so, that will go to the next Pop Star puppet to come off Cowell's production line.

Placebo's gender bending lo-fi pop sounds are still as popular as they ever were and their last record, "Sleeping with Ghosts" quietly sold over 4 million copies.

Live Review: Sawthroat
I've seen these guys many a time and this is was definitely Sawthroat at their very best. Probably the best that I have seen them play since their gig at The Cavern in August.

CD Review: The Mercury League - Untitled
Two tracks of melodic punk from ex-members of 46 Itchy. Thankfully the band have forgotten about their cheeky ska past and graced us with 2 smashing tracks of hook laden melodic punk raawk.

CD Review: The Beauty Shop - Rumplestiltskin Lives
Beginning with a quirky, memorable acoustic riff, this swaggers along for just over three and a half minutes, the vocals ranting about all the drudge of Americana like a drunken cowboy dragging his boots through the mud.

It took a couple of listens, but now I have TBHP filed comfortably in my musical catalogue of a brain cross referencing: The Pixies, Wilco, Grandaddy, and Grant Lee Buffalo.

CD Review: Broadzilla - Lady Luck
Biogs don't always play fair, a too well written biog can actually have an adverse effect - rather than promoting a band's worth it actually leaves you questioning whether your editor sent you the right one and didn't mix them up in the post.

CD Review: The Cut - Walking Lonely Streets EP
Has anyone ever seen a really cheesy porno flick, or even a piss take of one? If you have then you will most likely have heard that defining music that plays in the background.

CD Review: Puscha - Show Me What Love Is
Too excitable too soon, my young boys. Puscha's (albeit high-energy thrashing-at-the-bit heavy-breathing) second single gets all hot and bothered before it has anything to show for itself.

CD Review: Night Herons - Night Herons
If you like the sound of a band that channels the rock-soul sound of Gossip, the electro-falsetto of La Roux and the driving pop hooks of Blondie, then Leeds' very own Night Herons are definitely for you.

Live Review: The Alamo
There were rumours before this show that lead vocalist/guitarist Adam Sweeney had found religion in the remote regions of Tibet, that Chris had been arrested before the show and wasn't going to show, that Holly had developed an eating disorder from going on the Atkins diet, and that The Alamo had acquired a new drummer whilst they have been away.

CD Review: The Donnas - Gold Medal
I think every girl would secretly like to be a Donna. I mean, what teenager doesn't want to wear a pair of cowboy boots, some tight rhinestone-embellished jeans, plenty of beads and toss their suitably windswept and tousled beachy hair around their face and a stage for a good half hour or so?

CD Review: Headwater - Lay You Down
Headwater are simply a delight. I haven't come across a blue-grass country record with such sweet, sentimental song writing appeal since I went through a short lived Emmylou Harris phase about a year ago.

Live Review: Beat Route 62 + Circa 72 + Mir
FutureSound 2000 starts up at the Rocket Venue, and its immediately obvious from the amazing talent on show in the three bands battling it out tonight that the judges will be a difficult situation to decide which are the top six, the ones who will go through to the Leeds Carling Weekend Festival.

CD Review: Desolation Angels - Ring Road
I had a house, yeah, and I had a car And it looked pretty good as I looked like I should - Asylum Hailing from West of the Pennines, Desolation Angels have been cutting introspective slices of beat-poetry set to minimal, glistening guitars and keyboards, underscored by subtle and characteristic drumming, since the turn of the century.

Live Review: Cold War Kids + The Pink Mountaintops + Derek The Poet
A prolific indie band and a back-to-basics set from a folk-rock band interspersed with poems sung by a rather quirky young man to backing tracks on an iPod were always going to make for an extremely odd gig experience.

Live Review: Mr Shiraz + Mr Dogg + Duvall
Well if there was ever a rock 'n' roll town, it's gotta be Huddersfield. Why bloody Huddersfield? I asked Mr Shiraz and their pop impresario and all-round genial chap of a manager, and they all just said 'You'll see'.

Live Review: Pilot to Gunner + Kenneth Ishak + Oubliette + That Fucking Tank
It was a brisk night, a cold night, a night that flirted with rain and hail showers. The Clue Machine - part bionic, part cybernetic, frivolously journalistic - suckled upon a cigarette in his car, digesting his prior investigation of the venue.

CD Review: Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It So Much Better
That's right folks, the notoriously troublesome second album is due, you've used all your best tunes on the first one and back home everybody else has re-hashed them behind your back while you've been busy conquering North America.

CD Review: Various Artists - NME The Album 2009
The press release that accompanies this two disco compilation gives NME the moniker of "the pioneers of all things cool" before promising us an album that "has its finger on the pulse, so you don't have to!" It couldn't possibly be any clearer that this is an album for people who see a band on the front cover of NME, and then spend the next week enthusing about the greatness of said band, regardless of whether they like them or not.
