The first thing I noticed when this CD started playing was that ... it was amazing! I'm not just saying that to avoid being harsh to the band (which I have noticed happens too much), this EP is truly incredible.

If somebody told me that Mary Cook (a.k.a. We're Not The Cool Kids) lived an entirely solitary existence, away from anybody else's music or influence, I think I'd believe them, at least for a minute (that being the minute that someone informed me that there was a Springsteen cover on her EP).

Live Review: Sam Airey + Fossil Collective + Fran Rodgers + Dancing Years
I'll give you a snapshot of my day on Saturday, last weekend. I took the dog for a 4 mile walk around Rodley, picked-up my first ever press-perk type wristband, went to my favourite hideaway (The Leeds Library) to snaffle my pack-up and lose myself in a book for an hour or so, headed to The Cockpit to catch some live music, nipped for a brew with the lovely Mrs Pickle, moseyed-on down to Trinity Church for some more live music, popped home to feed the pets, went back out to Brudenell Social Club for another portion of live music and then finished the night at The Wardrobe for a cherry-on-top serving of, yup, more live music.

It all sits a bit on knife-edge this one; I can't be the only one that feels it. The sweet, sweet taste of anticipation impregnates ever fibre of my body and, in empathy with a dog on heat, I pace round the Refec like a chained beast.

I give you fair warning. I am about to break the ancient, time-honoured and globally respected code of the International Covenant of Authors, Note-Takers, Writers, Reviewers, Interviewers, Talkers and Editors (or ICANTWRITE for short) covering the critique of musical releases and/or performances on precisely 2 counts. In fact one of these has already been broken. So apologies if this warning comes too late in the day and has already caused you unnecessary distress.

Band Profile: Twisted Wheel
Twisted Wheel was formed in February 2007 in Oldham Band members are guitarist and singer Jonny Brown, bassist Stephen Evans and drummer Eoghan Clifford The Guardian's Paul Lester commented on the band: 'The sound of Manchester's youth snatching back '60s psychadelia and using it to smash in the windows of '77 punk..Basically, the kid from 'Kes' has formed a punky skiffle band and he's pissed off about that dead bird..the band produce a 'furiously fast rockabilly rumble, so primitive and unrefined it makes the Monkeys sound like ELP.' BACKGROUND First things first...Twisted Wheel are not named after the legendary Northern Soul club of the same name (though they are aware of it), are encyclopedic about their musical heroes and recoil at the thought of being pigeon-holed as a 'northern band'.
