Fighting With Wire are Derry's answer to the Foo Fighters. "Machine Parts" could easily figure on any Foo's album, rocking as it does with the same vigour and borrowing massively from the Grohl melody bank.

CD Review: The Zico Chain - s/t
After spending some time listening to this new mini album from Brighton's angry grungers, The Zico Chain, I have learnt several things.  My grunge threshold is considerably lower than I previously thought.  Comparisons to legendary bands can be a thankless task.  Confidence in yourself can be a saviour.

CD Review: Pulled Apart by Horses - Wolf Hand
Pulled Apart by Horses say that new single, Wolf Hand, is: "our very own piercing tale of forgetting about ageing and staying forever young;" and the choice of video captures that pretty well, showing the band goofing around in someone's back garden, home-video-style, leaping into cardboard boxes and through panes of glass, in what looks like the setting of a kid's abandoned birthday party.

Live Review: Jerry Cantrell
How influential were Alice in Chains? Maybe not as influential as their nineties grunge peers Nirvana, maybe not as highly touted as their glum superstar friends Soundgarden, but if you step back and look at the crop of bands that are now doing a piss poor impression of one of the heavier, yet more diverse Seattle bands from the grunge explosion, you'll realise how that most of these bands (Godsmack to name the most blatant copyists, even taking their name from a song from "Dirt") were losing themselves in the misery that was one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the 90's, 1992's "Dirt", rather than jumping around and trying to craft three chords into sub-Nirvana anthems.

The eagerly awaited lead-off single from Dinosaur Pile-up's debut album 'Growing Pains' certainly doesn't waste time - an immediate vocal line and scratchy power chords kick straight into a persistent chorus, then heads into some pounding punk riffage all within the first 40 seconds of the song.
