Band Profile: Redwire
2012 has been hectic for redwire! This young 5-piece from Bradford emerged from their studio at the start of the year with an infectious, high-energy, classic indie-rock set which has seen them gain followers and plaudits wherever they have performed.<br /><br />Their debut single was released in May through the independent label 'One Above Records' and received high praise from Supajam who observed; "redwire play a brand of scuzzy, bluesy rock which places them sonically somewhere between the Arctic Monkeys and The Enemy, only with the playfulness of the former and none of the boredom of the latter."<br /><br />A 15 date UK tour saw them perform alongside King Charles, Bastille, We Are Augustine's, The Vaseline's and History of Apple Pie. They were also busy on the festival circuit with slots at Long Division, Live At Leeds, X&Y and Crooked Ways where Lyric Lounge Review boldly declared; "redwire have knocked away all pretenders to the indie throne and filled a void we were beginning to think was permanent."<br /><br />redwire's music is in high demand off stage with syncs on the highly acclaimed BBC series Being Human and a screenplay written and directed by Irvine Welsh. The band recently finished filming scenes for 'Switch', the new drama on ITV2, in which two of their tracks also feature.<br /><br />The second single 'Playing With Fire' released on 29th October, accompanied by a 20 date UK tour includes supports to Reverend & The Makers and The Pigeon Detectives.<br /><br />With their eagerly anticipated EP expected in early 2013, redwire are definitely a band to catch up close and personal whilst you still have the chance!

CD Review: Maximo Park - Girls Who Play Guitars
The a phrase "post-libertine" is used a lot these days to describe a certain style of music or band; with the emergence of The Futureheads and subsequently Maximo Park I've noticed a large number of sound-alikes sprouting up that could be described as "post-Maximo Park" bands, so it's interesting to see what the forerunners of the "angular" art-pop scene has to offer.

CD Review: Decoration - Pine / I Just Froze
Despite the glorious critical response to last year's long playing debut "Don't Disappoint Me Now", Decoration undeservingly remain very much a band worshipped by only a select few.

CD Review: Paddy Casey - Living
Paddy Casey has a severe case of David Gray-itis - huge in Ireland, but pretty unheard of over here. This LP was kept off the Irish top spot by Dido - and then by only 86 measly copies.

CD Review: Nine Black Alps - Everything Is
Nine Black Alps are the latest in the long line of bands to be adorned with that oft used title 'The Next Nirvana' but for anyone who is now hearing band names such as Silverchair, Puddle of Mudd and Bush, fear not.

Live Review: Garlic + Being 747
Despite having come down with the latest illness to be going around Leeds, I still tried my hardest to wrap up and get out to see London's Garlic, who were invited back to Leeds by Panama Promotions after being witnessed playing a storming set at the opening Strychnine Lounge.

CD Review: Stark - Put It To Your Head
On our breaks at work we like to play a game. This is known as the 'mini challenge', where the first person to spot a mini in the packed supermarket car park wins.

Live Review: Young Heart Attack + Seven Hours
I'm starting to wonder if someone's put a curse on me which has condemned me for an eternity of always missing the opening act when I go to review gigs at Joseph's Well - this is no less than the third time in a row that it's happened.

CD Review: Buck Brothers - Me
Many people erroneously laugh off the Kaiser Chiefs as mere Britpop pretenders, but imagine if they had actually been born into the dregs of Britpop in 1995 and not quite made it - thus leaving the music business quietly to play at local snooker clubs wearing sunglasses, a la Rick Witter?

Live Review: Decibels in Bloom + Termite + New Portlands
Over the last few years, it seems Huddersfield has been awash with young indie bands, complete with converse trainers and spiky guitars, following bright eyed in the wake of a trail blazed by local contemporaries, most notably Arctic Monkeys and The Cribs.

Live Review: Brazil + Red Vinyl Fur + Kenosha
A great concept for a night - no doubt. Let's drag some foreigners kicking and certainly screaming across those windy rain plagued hills separating the land and cram them into Leeds' "most intimate venue" to try and conquer a largely partisan audience, forced to miss the footie and demanding satisfaction.
