The spirit of da Bruddas lives on in the most unlikely places. Mika Bomb are a three-girl two-boy crew of punk rockers from Japan who are clearly in love with the Ramones' brand of bubblegum pop.

Live Review: Toy De Trop + Marrizon + Relapse
Opening with a wave of fuzz and pomp filled riffs, three piece Relapse play dark rock. To use the word 'emo' to describe this band is risky, it's the equivalent of when neo-conservatives use 'liberal' to describe their opponents - however it's not a dirty word, and certainly in this case it's no bad thing.

Firstly I will say I am not a huge fan of new punk bands but somehow after seeing these guys live in some place in Northwich the other night the energy and humour onstage from these Mansfield lads compelled me to grab a hold of one of their free CDs which humorously had several cut-outs of Jim Bowen (one complete with a doll of Bully!) on the cover along with...

Middlesex's Designated Driver do what a lot of modern Emo frat-party nu-punk rockers don't - they actually write songs that feel like they mean it rather than purely sounding good when you've got a skinful.

Not many people are here to watch Buzzkill; a real shame, as they give it their all. Unfortunately there is a problem with the saxophone, meaning we don't get to see Matt Perrot strut his stuff, and this leaves half a brass section by the name of Ben Whittington, who's trumpet can barely be heard except during his fiddly solos.

Yes, they played 'Iris' and everyone in the crowd sang along. There's a chance you stopped reading there and from the reaction of friends you'd be forgiven for thinking The Goo Goo Dolls had only ever released one track, but it's often seen as one of the best songs ever, even reaching the heady heights of being (abysmally) covered by Ronan Keating.

Live Review: Mr Shiraz + Inside Drive + Blake
An average crowd age of about 9, thanks to the support acts still being in their nappies, gave the Cockpit a very Byker Grove feel as teeny rockers Blake drew the curtain on their tolerable set.

Live Review: The Gaslight Anthem + The Skints + Dingus Khan + Möngöl Hörde + The Flatliners (ca) + Apologies, I Have None
My first port of call upon arriving at Leeds Festival 2012 was, without a doubt, going to be the Lock Up Stage; and what a better way to start the weekend than by melodic quartet Apologies, I Have None.

Band Profile: Dead Meadow
Dead Meadow met in the DC punk/indie scene, though their music draws from more faraway sources. The band formed in the fall of 1998 from the ashes of local bands The Impossible Five and Colour, when singer-guitarist Jason Simon, bassist Steve Kille, and drummer Mark Laughlin set out to fuse their love of early 70's hard rock and 60's psychedelia with their love of writers J.R.R.

The 360 Club (located upstairs at The Library pub) is a venue full of benefits. The sound is excellent and although the intimate club is by no means the largest setting in Leeds, (you're never more than 10ft away from the bar - another bonus!); the charming location is deceptively wide, creating ample space for upwards of 250 people.
