CD Review: Delphic - Doubt
On everyone's 'tip for the top' tongues this new year are Mancunian synth-botherers Delphic. 'Doubt' is the second single from just released album 'Acolyte' and, to the relief of Radio One programmers everywhere, it's pretty good.

CD Review: Noisia - Machine Gun
'Machine Gun,' the first single to be lifted off Dutch trio Noisia's forthcoming full-length, is the sort of drum n bass that might, inexplicably, infiltrate the alternative scene, ala Pendulum - although an industrial tinge means this is far darker than anything Pendulum have ever produced.

CD Review: Rolo Tomassi - s/t
You can't really diss Rolo Tomassi. In fairness, I've seen these guys struggle through hardcore shows, getting abuse from the scene kids because they're all about 14 (my old band played with them last year and they bought their GCSE revision books with them), but they've struggled on over the past year and finally honed their unusual brand of synth-spazzcore, so now their headlining shows and supporting HORSE the band and stuff.

Opening with a swirling, effect laden guitar and brooding synth "Bite The Hand" evokes memories of many of Britpop's finest; the gloomy brightness of Mansun and guitar lines "borrowed" from Suede.

CD Review: Surferosa - Lucky Lipstick
"Synth-punk", "funk punk" and "neo-trash-pop" is what they say, and it is true to say that Surferosa are more pop than punk, with a sound dominated by a synthesiser and Mariann's powerful, yet seemingly glitter-and-candy-obsessed girly pink voice.

CD Review: Shy Child - Liquid Love
The Synthpop/Electronic duo Shy Child, who released their first album back in 2002, have released their fourth album 'Liquid Love.' It's an album full of their usual catchy pop tunes, but seems to have a little more maturity than some of their earlier work, such as 'Drop the Phone.' 'Disconnected' has a memorable tune and is reminiscent of MGMT's music, with falsetto voices and the repetitiveness of the chorus, "I'm disconnected from the source that won't take it out, out / travels backwards in your mouth / let me get it out, out." There is a discomfort in listening to the chorus and perhaps this reflects the discomfort of being disconnected, but nonetheless it should be listened to in moderation.

'1888' is five tracks of hardcore-influenced metal. It's a fair assumption that this is what Bullet For My Valentine would have sounded like if, following 'The Poison,' they had explored the nastier, darker side of their sound, rather than written songs like 'Hearts Burst Into Fire.' The only thing separating The Defiled from an angrier BFMV, is their dabblings in electro and gothic synths, which jars against the straight-faced heaviness of their music.

Scotland's sonic purveyors of progressive alt-rock return with their third album in as many years.
