Live Review: Dirty Pretty Things + Humanzi + Louie
There's the possibility of a successful band here, but it's unlikely to be named Louie. I mean, it could form from Louie, or component members thereof, but for now all we see before us is a band going through the stage of self-finding, identification and formation.

CD Review: Various Artists - Bright Young Things 2007
Fifteen quite individual tracks - and yet there's more than a hint of overall unity to this. Not sameness: far from it, but a feel that it wouldn't be impossible to cook up a narrative thread plotting the journey from minute 1 to minute 59, and so award concept album status as well as whatever other accolades are coming to BYT 2007.

Band Profile: Love Of The Brave
A recent acquisition of a job lot of old recording equipment, which had been in storage in a garage belonging to a 97 year woman, uncovered a long forgotten gem. In amongst the cart of one of the tape machines we bought were four mouldy 1" reel boxes marked "Rita Brave - album sessions Oct-Dec '71". Although the boxes were perishing, the reels were perfectly preserved within the plastic sheaths. We fell in love with what we found and felt duty bound to breathe new life into her work so that it may see the light of day.<br />Over the next year, with an 8-track tape machine and a bunch of old valve recording equipment we set about reworking some of the material we found. Some things we kept, some things we didn't. A collaboration spanning 40 years. A record which is hers but also ours. So far our efforts to locate Rita have not turned up anything substantial. We have called this project "Love of the Brave".

Live Review: JD73
The buzz of anticipation hangs heavy in The Wardrobe as JD73 take to the stage to make their debut. It's the culmination of a year's hard work for Dan Goldman, the funk-fingered Morcheeba keyboardist responsible for JD73's distinctive brand of Electro-funk, and if tonight's reaction is anything to go by, good times are ahead.

Ah the theremin. Not since 'Good Vibrations' have I heard such magnificent use of the instrument. CD Review: Wilful Missing - Untitled
There's some really good talent here: in the playing, the singing and the songwriting. As Kingsley Amis said about some other very pleasing things, 'I'm clear on why I like them, thanks; but why do I like them so much?' The answer has to be a subtle intensity in Wilful Missing's often fragile-sounding songs written and sung by Sam Kipling, with a range of well-controlled instruments in the hands of guitarist Sam Lawrence and bass player Albert Freeman.
