CD Review: Various Artists - Pledge - Kerbdog Tribute
As soon as I saw this album was being released I was straight onto the email asking to review it. I have been a long-standing fan of Ireland's metal sons Kerbdog, and just as the world seems to have forgotten about them along comes this tribute album crammed full of covers from their small back catalogue, and featuring a broad array of bands with varying musical influences.

From Wakefield's One Day, After School... comes a four track demo bringing together tracks previously released on a number of compilations, including 'Geek Pie III' and 'Do You Suffer From Philophobia?' Ever since Pythagoras, the history of angularity has been one of sharp peaks and troughs. Musically speaking, those who favour the sharp edges seem to have found more success when the acute has been tempered, or even augmented, by the obtuse; where the willful confusion of your ears has been rendered palatable by the delivery of the odd hummable bass line or pithy lyrical couplet.

'This town is in disarray' claims the opening track from this sampler, but clearly not in a bad way. As an album it may suffer from being a hotchpotch of radically different offerings from local record labels, but I'd be surprised if any unwitting industry mogul - into whose hand this disc may have been thrust at the recent SXSW festival, and who actually took the time to give it a spin - failed to diagnose a clean bill of health for the current Leeds scene.
