Band Profile: Love Of The Brave
A recent acquisition of a job lot of old recording equipment, which had been in storage in a garage belonging to a 97 year woman, uncovered a long forgotten gem. In amongst the cart of one of the tape machines we bought were four mouldy 1" reel boxes marked "Rita Brave - album sessions Oct-Dec '71". Although the boxes were perishing, the reels were perfectly preserved within the plastic sheaths. We fell in love with what we found and felt duty bound to breathe new life into her work so that it may see the light of day.<br />Over the next year, with an 8-track tape machine and a bunch of old valve recording equipment we set about reworking some of the material we found. Some things we kept, some things we didn't. A collaboration spanning 40 years. A record which is hers but also ours. So far our efforts to locate Rita have not turned up anything substantial. We have called this project "Love of the Brave".

CD Review: The Fencott Disaster - Rome and Step On It
Four-track EP from these boys - 4 songs of NY garage influenced post punk, not a bad effort, some of the guitar work is quite interesting with the dual lead thing going on and with the bass rumbling away in the back makes for an ok listen.

CD Review: The Twilight Sad - No One Can Ever Know
I shall start this review off with saying, personally, I'm not a great fan of previous Twilight Sad remixes, just because the beauty is drained from the track and some have sounded too forced to sound 'remixed.' After weeks of listening to the Liars remix of Nil after the Sad posted the track up on their Facebook page I've been sceptical into how this album would sound.

CD Review: Blowback - Bad Hair Day
Knowing very little about the band Blowback, the CD went straight on and instantly I was given the (good) impression that the CD was going to kick ass, an American lo-fi sub-pop post-punk and seriously rocking affair, from the guitar intro to the introduction of drums and bass - then the vocals kicked in, the tempo lowered and I thought "Hmmmmm".

Celebrating the fact that their track "Skydiver" is currently being used by the TV series "A Bears Tail" may be financially gratifying but the double edged sword is that a track chosen for a comedy show usually has some tell tale traits and not necessarily ones that make right for a single.

Farming Incident are disturbing. Their three track CD demo is not only titled "What can you do with a pig's head and sheep's brains?", a title to get any decent human being worried about what they are about to encounter, but their opening track Rostov begins with the lyrics "When I was a boy, My father used to give me cigarettes, Then beat me up for smoking, When I was a boy, I used to torture my pets".

The first single lifted from UB40's Ali Campbell's 'Great British Songs' album, is a reggae cover of The Hollies' 1967 hit 'Carrie Anne.' It's a sublime cover, with some ingenious vocal manoeuvring on the chorus, which turns the whole thing into one big, shiny vocal hook.

Garon Shark are a young rock'n'roll four-piece from Huddersfield (what is it with that town?) CD Review: The Joy Formidable - Greyhounds In The Slips
Following on from their eight track CD 'A Balloon Called Moaning,' The Joy Formidable have delivered a seductively produced track 'Greyhounds in the Slips.' Fully powered drums carve out a crescendo of epic proportions, leaving the guitars to compete for attention.
