Twice in two days is probably a verbal warning. Local Natives, very good at the Brudenell earlier in the year, are interviewed in today's Guardian explaining why they shouldn't really be tagged as "a Fleet of Arcade Vampires on Fire". A shame though that my favourite song on their album is a cover, and shame cast down on me for not knowing that before I read it on here:

I like your review Sean and I know a few other people who feel exactly the way you do about it - right down to the same comments about the first track!

Didn't do it for me. Their performance with the Boss at Glastonbury was out of this world but can't really get excited about them.

People are free to submit reviews and you're free to make your comments. I like it that way.

I really found the massive circle pit they incited to be a real downer. Seemingly if you're not male between 14 and 25 you're not fit to be in a position to see or hear the band properly.

Posted in CD Review: Sage Francis - Human the Death Dance

Just to clarify - what I'm saying is that I think Kanye West is quite a canny operator.

Though I'm not really too interested in Kanye's music, I do think it's smart how he builds his tracks with accessible choruses to widen their appeal, yet still explores issues and themes that are important. As he says in a quote ripped from Wikipedia, "I throw up historical subjects in a way that makes kids want to learn about them". Whether Sage Francis actually wants to achieve that is another matter I guess, but I'd hope he would be interested in entertaining his audience rather than just impressing them, even if he's not as concerned about shifting units.

This is beginning to resemble a cutdown version of Cliff Notes. I don't suppose you're really meant to write them yourself though!

Recently bought this on your recommendation and I'm glad I did. Ace record.

Posted in CD Review: Vague Angels - Truth Loved

The Van Pelt were awesome. Remember dragging loads of people to see The Lapse at Leeds fest and their equipment failing after a song or so. During the break Chris told a rambling tour story which generally consisted of a series of catastrophes. It's good to see him back.

Another good review Nick, hope you'll be heading down to see Ted Leo at the Cockpit next month.

Damn sounds like I missed a good night. If Cancer Bats blew these two off the stage then they must be worth checking out.

This review could have been good or shit, I thought it was good.

On the plus side they would have a Ramones song named after them.

Posted in CD Review: The Pigeon Detectives - Romantic Type

Apologies if I have misconstrued their intent somewhat. I do still feel that the basis of the lyrics is a little petty and hurts the song overall. That said, Matt's appeal on 6 Music for last minute HMV sales to boost their chart placing did crack me up. Good luck to em.

This kicks ass and has been in heavy rotation on my stereo. What's more they've just announced a date at Fibbers on the 20th Feb.
