Leeds based electro artist Superpowerless has reached number one on the YouTube Spotlight Video chart after receiving 12,000 views in 24 hours. It’s been a successful year for Oliver Hindle, the man behind the “chiptune” outfit, as he fought of thousands of other entries to be crowned winner of the MTV Vodaphone fast track competition in January.

The song which has won him both awards is “Wasted My Time”. His prize for winning the MTV Vodaphone competition was a single and video launch. The single was produced by renowned producer D.J Andy Chatterley and the Video was directed by Luc Janin, who has worked with the Fratellis, Stereophonics and Boy Kill Boy. They were both launched on 23rd March.

20-year-old Oliver, who was born and raised in Pontefract and is now in his first year studying Music Technology at Leeds Metroplitan University said, “After winning the MTV competetion things have gathered pace. To be top of the charts on a world wide site is amazing. We seem to be creating a bit of following in Leeds which is really exciting.”

Superpowerless are a part of the exciting new breed of chiptune or chipmusic artists that are emerging around the country. Chiptune is software used to programme Gameboys so that they can be used to create music.

With their very unique sound and exhilirating live shows, Superpowerless are causing quite a stir in the Leeds music scene after selling out their first two gigs. The next live gig is at the Cockpit on April 15th.
