This is a review of "Untitled" recorded by Anechoic. The review was written by Sam Saunders in 2003.

Rob Leach's three-piece Anechoic do three sweetly melancholic songs with minimal fuss. They are very agreeable, highly listenable tunes with a consistently intelligent feel. I like it.

Understated keyboards and acoustic guitar provide accompaniment for a high-register voice that invites the listener right to the heart of each song: "call off the war", "just like you" and "half light" deal with the emotionally fractured male world of big politics and small personal details.

Just like Radiohead of OK Computer era in fact. The voice, the melodies and the harmonic shapes are uncannily evocative. There are none of the big dramatic moments. But this work is either overly influenced by Radiohead, or else the musical descent line branched off from the same places.
