The line up for the Leeds Festival 2006 was announced this evening with a few Leeds bands amongst those appearing. Fresh from an amusing collaboration between Ricky Wilson and Ryan Jarman on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Kaiser Chiefs and The Cribs are the notable local acts in the initial announcement.

With their début album on 1.8m sales, a handful of Brits in the bag and an NME Award for Best Album Leeds' Kaiser Chiefs are second only to Franz Ferdinand on the Main Stage on Saturday 26th August. The Cribs appear on the Main Stage on Sunday 27th August.

The other Main Stage headliners at the Leeds Festival 2006 are Pearl Jam (Friday), who make their début UK festival appearance, and Muse (Sunday). Other bands playing across the weekend include Placebo, My Chemical Romance, Audioslave, Feeder, Belle and Sebastian, The Subways, Panic! At The Disco, Arctic Monkeys, The Streets, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Dirty Pretty Things, The Futureheads and Wolfmother.

Radio One / NME Stage headliners this year will be Maximo Park (Friday), Primal Scream (Saturday) and The Raconteurs (Sunday). Other bands announced for the Friday are The Rakes and The Kooks.
